Celebrate the power and legacy of steam railroading this Labor Day Weekend at Railfest 2025, returning to Steamtown National Historic Site for three full days of rail history, live demonstrations, and family-friendly fun! This year’s festival marks two major milestones:
The 100th anniversary of Grand Trunk Western No. 6039, a high-speed steam locomotive that has long been part of Steamtown’s renowned collection.
The 30th anniversary of Steamtown’s 1995 public grand opening, commemorating decades of rail preservation since the park joined the National Park Service in 1986.
Visitors of All Ages Can Enjoy:
- Historic locomotive displays and behind-the-scenes exhibits
- Train rides through the scenic Lackawanna Valley
- Interactive programs and educational experiences
- Hands-on activities presented by local partner organizations
A free shuttle will run between Steamtown and La Festa Italiana in Downtown Scranton, allowing guests to easily enjoy two major events in one trip. Visitors can also enter the park directly from Lackawanna Avenue via the Marketplace at Steamtown’s mall bridge walkway.
