Earth Day event: The Lackawanna County Department of Environmental Sustainability, along with multiple cosponsors and participants, will conduct an Earth Day observance Saturday at McDade Park, 1 Bald Mountain Road, Scranton. From 9-11 a.m., the Sierra Club will lead volunteers in cleaning up the park and removing invasive plant species. Registration is required for the cleanup, through a QR code on the event flyer or at lackawannacounty.org. After the cleanup, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., visitors can enjoy arts and crafts, music and a wide array of environmental education offerings from participating organizations.
Golf tournament: The Arc of Northeastern Pennsylvania 25th annual Golf Tournament, May 19, Glen Oak Country Club in Clarks Summit. The day will feature a captain-and-crew format and is open to everyone. The shotgun start is at noon with registration beginning at 11 a.m. There are plenty of contests and games throughout the day for you to try your skill and luck. Extended marriage license hours: The Lackawanna County register of wills’ Marriage License Bureau will offer extended hours Thursday, as it will on the fourth Thursday of every month through October. Register of Wills Fran Koveleski said the office, on the fifth floor of the Lackawanna County Government Center, 123 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. in addition to regular business hours. During those extended hours, the office also will provide certified copies of existing marriage licenses for anyone who needs the record to obtain a Real I.D. Marriage license applicants must fill out an application online at www.lackawannacounty.org/government/elected_officials/register_of_wills/index.php. Also, applicants must make an appointment with the office. Both people applying for a license must appear in person. Couples should bring current photo identifications and a check or money order for the $70 fee (the office does not accept credit or debit cards). If one or both applicants previously were married, they must present their divorce decrees or death certificates for former spouses. State law requires a three-day waiting period after the license approval for couples to be married, and the license is valid for 60 days. Other than Thursday, the dates for extended hours are May 22, June 26, July 24, Aug. 28, Sept. 25 and Oct. 23.
