Sword ceremony: GAR Memorial Association and Sons of Union Veterans Griffin Post 8 announce the return to Scranton of the sword worn by Lt. Ezra Griffin of Providence (now North Scranton) during the Civil War. The public is invited. Admission is free. Ceremony, Sunday, 2 p.m., GAR Museum, second floor, Marketplace at Steamtown, Lackawanna Avenue, Scranton. Prayer, and music by the Mark Montella Project and Mark Myers of Post 8. Light refreshments. Nick Petula, author of “Forgotten Hero: The Life, Letters and Diaries of Lt. Ezra S. Griffin,” will speak.
Bus trip: Friends of the Scranton Public Library bus trip to the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, on Aug. 16. Bus will depart from the library at 8 a.m. and return at 8 p.m. Lunch on your own. Bus stop for dinner on the way home not included in registration fee.
