Memorial Day ceremony: Scranton Veterans Memorial Park will host this year’s Memorial Day ceremony sponsored by VFW Post 25 and the city of Scranton on May 26 at noon. Public is invited. Members of VFW Post 25 along with the Northeast Detachment of the Marine Corps League and city of Scranton will participate; Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti will offer remarks. Special guest this year will be David Ratzel, older brother of Air Force Capt. Wesley Ratzel, who was shot down over North Vietnam in 1972. His remains weren’t returned to the United States for 15 years and he is now buried at Arlington National Cemetery. David and his family will place the memorial wreath at the monument, and David will speak of his brother. The Ron Leas Big Band with singer Sharon Ambrozia will perform. Bagpiper Dick McLane and local Boy and Girl Scouts will also participate.
