The Margery Scranton Council of Republican women presented a $300 donation to Bill Burns, president of the GAR Memorial Association, toward the fundraising effort of the association to return the Civil War Sword of Lt. Ezra Griffin. Griffin fought for the Union in the Civil War, answering President Lincoln’s call for volunteers. He was a Providence section native and succumbed to wounds incurred at the siege of Petersburg, Virginia, in 1864. Robin Medeiros presented an additional $50 donation from Robin Medeiros Realtor with Realty Network Group. Donations may be dropped off at the museum, second floor of the Marketplace at Steamtown, near Crunch. A pasta dinner is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at the Marine Corps League building, 1340 Alder St., Scranton, from noon-3 p.m. Tickets available at the door.
