Actress Kristen Amanda Smith will try to make “fetch” happen at the Scranton Cultural Center the weekend of May 16, when a national tour of “Mean Girls” struts across the stage.
She plays Gretchen, a popular high school girl who tries to turn “fetch” into slang for “cool.” Like a lot of what Gretchen does, it doesn’t go as hoped.
Smith said her character’s eagerness for approval makes her relatable. “I think of a lot of young people, and honestly, people of any age, can relate to those feelings,” she said.
“Mean Girls,” the creation of “Saturday Night Live” and “30 Rock” star Tina Fey, was first a 2004 movie.
Performance times are Friday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 17, at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 18, at 1 and 6:30 p.m. The tour recommends the show for ages 10 and over. Tickets begin at $56, plus any fees, and may increase closer to the shows. Tickets are available at BroadwayInScranton.com and the Scranton Cultural Center box office, 420 N. Washington Ave. Box office hours are weekdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
