A Scott Twp. man on an ATV at a drive-thru in Carbondale took off over a curb and through a landscaped area when officers approached him, police charge.
Gage Johnson, 22, of 100 Shields Road, is charged with fleeing police and driving an ATV on a public road.
According to the criminal complaint:
Carbondale police were on patrol April 6 when they saw three ATVs at the McDonald’s drive-thru at 160 Brooklyn St. at about 1:30 a.m.
Johnson spotted police and signaled the drivers of the two other ATVs.
Police stopped their patrol vehicle in front of the drive-thru lane to prevent the ATVs from leaving.
Officer Keith Rynearson walked toward Johnson’s vehicle and ordered him to stop.
Instead, Johnson reversed and then pulled forward over a landscaped area and struck a sign.
Johnson then spun around, drove across the grass onto Brooklyn Street and fled.
Officers used surveillance footage to identify Johnson and his passenger, Hailey Brajuka.
Johnson is also charged with recklessly endangering another person and criminal mischief.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on June 23 before District Judge Sean McGraw.
