A Scranton man was charged in a July 6 crash on Route 307 in Roaring Brook Township that resulted in the death of a Taylor man.

Jeremy Dickey, age 45, was charged IN connection with the death of Christian Herbert of Taylor, said Lackawanna County District Attorney Brian J. Gallagher.

Dickey is charged with homicide by vehicle while under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, driving under the Influence and related summary offenses.

Dickey is alleged to have made an improper left hand turn when he struck Herbert, who was approaching in the opposite lane of travel.

It was determined Dickey did not stop prior to turning and failed to yield to the Herbert in oncoming traffic. After arriving on scene, Pennsylvania State Police troopers observed indicators that Dickey was under the influence of alcohol. Laboratory results later showed Dickey’s blood alcohol concentration was .244%, or more than three times the legal limit of .08%.

“This case is a stark reminder of the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving,” Gallagher said in a news release. “An innocent life was unnecessarily lost due to the senseless actions of a drunk driver. This is a tragedy that shouldn’t have happened and could have been easily avoided. There is no excuse, DUI fatalities are preventable, especially now with the variety of rideshares at our fingertips. As we approach Labor Day weekend, please make responsible choices and remember that one careless choice behind the wheel will shatter lives,”

Dickey faces a maximum sentence of 15 years and a maximum fine of $35,000.00 for the charges he is facing as a result of this crash.

Dickey was arraigned Thursday before District Judge Joanne Corbett. He is out on a $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Sept.
