DUNMORE — A Dunmore woman who refused to stop yelling about politics at a local tavern resisted officers when they responded, according to a criminal complaint.

Bernadette Warner, 54, of 608 E. Warren St., is charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.

Here is what police say happened:

At about 9:30 p.m. on April 12, officers responded to the Kuzzin’s Cafe at 733 E. Drinker St. for a patron who attempted to attack staff.

When police arrived at the tavern, they found Warner standing outside the establishment smelling strongly of alcohol and slurring her words.

Officers asked Warner to step away from the doorway, but she refused and instead began reaching into her right jacket pocket.

As police were attempting to escort Warner across the street to speak to her about the incident, she pulled away. Officers put her in handcuffs and walked her across the street.

They spoke with an owner of the business who said Warner was asked to stop speaking loudly about politics, but refused.

She allegedly began yelling when she was told she wouldn’t be served any additional alcohol and swung at a member of the staff.

Police then spoke with Warner, who said she got to the bar at about 9 p.m. and had three beers.

She said staff members began yelling and screaming at her during an argument over politics.

She denied swinging at a staff member and said, “I did nothing wrong.”

Officers advised Warner she was being arrested and would be taken to the patrol vehicle.

While being escorted to the police vehicle, she refused to keep walking several times.

At Dunmore Police Headquarters, she refused to get out of the police car and was physically escorted to a holding cell, where she kicked a police officer. Once secured, Warner yelled and kicked the door.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on April 23 before District Judge Alyce Farrell.
