A Scranton man faces charges after he arranged to exchange methamphetamine for sexual services, police said.

On Wednesday, officers from the Scranton Police Street Crimes Unit launched an investigation into suspected drug and prostitution activities within Scranton, according to a criminal complaint.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers monitored activity on a website used to facilitate prostitution, which allows users to advertise using explicit descriptions and images of available sexual services, as well as payment methods and locations.

According to the complaint:

As part of the sting, an undercover officer posed as a 30-year-old woman and was contacted by Joshua Goodwin, 42, who agreed to meet to exchange crystal methamphetamine for sexual activity.

Goodwin, of 118 Bush St., let the undercover officer know he was on his way. A short time later, he texted the officer, indicating he had arrived in a gray SUV and was going around the block to park.

Investigators then approached Goodwin and arrested him.

He admitted he had arrived at the location to meet with the undercover officer to exchange crystal meth for sexual services.

He told investigators the meth was in his pocket.

Goodwin gave officers consent for them to search him and they found 1.5 grams of meth in a plastic baggie in his pants pocket and the cellphone used to communicate with the undercover officer.

Goodwin is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a cellphone and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on May 1 before District Judge Joanne Corbett.

Goodwin remains at the Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail.
