A Scranton man repeatedly punched his wife and beat his teen son with a brick Saturday afternoon, leaving his son bloodied with multiple teeth “visibly hanging loose,” city police said.
Christ Germosen Padilla, 33, 1402 Cherry St., is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, endangering the welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and related counts, according to a criminal complaint.
Scranton police responded to 1402 Cherry St. around 3 p.m. Saturday after receiving multiple 911 calls about a domestic dispute at the residence, according to the arrest paperwork. Officers arrived to find about half a dozen people outside, most of them shouting at Germosen Padilla.
Police quickly put Germosen Padilla in handcuffs “due to the intensity of the incident,” according to the complaint. He complied but maintained that he had done nothing wrong and that his wife attacked him while he was asleep, officers said, noting some redness near his right eye.
Inside the home, officers found Germosen Padilla’s 16-year-old son covered in blood with several teeth visibly hanging loose from his mouth and a large cut on his upper lip. The teen and other children said their father caused the injuries with a brick.
Officers then spoke to Germosen Padilla’s wife and a close family friend, who said his wife had woken him up and confronted him about allegedly cheating, which he denied, according to the complaint.
The exchange became heated with Germosen Padilla and his wife shouting at each other face-to-face about who would strike first, police said. His wife slapped Germosen Padilla in the face, and he punched her.
A family friend and Germosen Padilla’s son tried to intervene, and as soon as his son got involved, Germosen Padilla punched him “extremely hard in the face,” according to the complaint.
As family members tried to leave in a minivan, Germosen Padilla picked up a large concrete brick and threw it at his wife, hitting her in the shoulder/back and knocking her to the ground, police said. He then climbed on top of her and “repeatedly punched her violently.” A family friend pulled him off her while pleading with him to stop because his children were watching, according to police.
He paused but prevented his family from leaving in the minivan by stopping them from closing the door. He opened the door, picked up the brick again and began repeatedly hitting his 16-year-old son in the face, head, back and arms, according to the criminal complaint.
He stopped shortly before police arrived.
Germosen Padilla remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $200,000 bail with a preliminary hearing May 7 at 10:45 a.m.
