Police: Man arrested after breaking into Scranton buildings

SCRANTON — A homeless man faces charges following a pair of break-ins in the city’s South Side, Scranton police announced in a media release.

Following a joint investigation of the Scranton Police Property Crimes Unit and Patrol Division, officers charged Anderson Cortez, 33, with burglary, criminal trespass and related counts for the two incidents, according to the release.

Cortez broke into an occupied home on the 300 block of Beech Street on April 27 and an unoccupied structure on the 400 block of Koch Place on Friday, police said.

Officers apprehended Cortez following an extensive foot pursuit, according to the news release.

A preliminary hearing will be held later this month.
