A Jessup man didn’t pull over when borough officers attempted to stop his vehicle because of an expired inspection sticker, police charge.
Instead, Joseph Piccuirro drove his black sedan home May 6 at a high rate of speed, according to a criminal complaint. Officers followed.
When Piccuirro arrived at 410 Second Ave., he got out of his car and headed toward his residence in spite of repeated police commands to get back inside his vehicle, the complaint states. “I’m already home,” he told officers as he approached the front door. He then waved his hands toward police and went inside.
About 20 minutes later, Piccuirro walked out the front door.
When asked what had prompted him to surrender to police, he responded, “Well, you guys aren’t leaving.”
Piccuirro, 35, is charged with flight to avoid apprehension. He also faces several traffic-related charges, driving with an expired inspection and proof of emissions testing, and illegal tinting.
Officer Jason Krawczyk checked the vehicle and determined there were no passengers inside. He noted a backup camera apparatus obscured the license plate.
Officers requested NEPA Towing respond to the scene to tow Piccuirro’s vehicle. Piccuirro retrieved several items from the vehicle before it was towed.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on July 1 before District Judge Laura Turlip.
