A man threatened to kill a security guard at Sheetz and was nearly struck by a vehicle when he attempted to flee, police charge.
Alex Thumann, who police identified as homeless, faces charges following the altercation at the Scranton convenience store Thursday night.
Police responded to 500 Mount Pleasant Drive around 11:15 p.m., according to a criminal complaint.
An officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Thumann and noted he was slurring his speech, police said. Thumann also became confrontational with the officer before starting to sway and eventually stumbling, leading the officer to believe he was under the influence of alcohol, according to the criminal complaint.
Thumann fled from the officer who attempted to detain him, nearly getting struck by a vehicle when he crossed the street, police said.
Additionally, Thumann tensed up his body and pulled away when the officer attempted to detain him, according to the criminal complaint.
Thumann also made threats against the officer who took him into custody, police said.
Police charged Thumann, 30, with terroristic threats, escape, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness and related counts.
As of Monday, Thumann remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is set for June 16 at 10:15 a.m.
