Six area ‘No Kings’ demonstrations planned for Saturday

Hundreds of “No Kings” demonstrations in protest of President Donald Trump will be held Saturday across the country, including in six in Northeast Pennsylvania.

Demonstrations are planned in response to Trump’s military parade, also scheduled for Saturday — Trump’s birthday and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. Organizers describe “No Kings” events as the “largest single-day mobilization” since Trump took office in January.

The protests are part of a “nationwide day of defiance,” that rejects “authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics and the militarization of our democracy,” the organizers’ website nokings.org states.

Demonstrations are planned for Saturday in six regional locations including:

  • Hallstead, Susquehanna County, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hallstead Bridge, 25059 US-11.
  • Honesdale, Wayne County, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Fred R. Miller Pavillion, 640 Main St.
  • Milford, Pike County, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Broad and Harford streets.
  • Scranton, Lackawanna County, from noon to 2 p.m. on Courthouse Square, 200 N. Washington Ave., and a candlelight  from 7 to 8 p.m.
  • Tunkhannock, Wyoming County, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Feed Miller Park, 17 Harding St.
  • Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, from 2 to 4 p.m. on Public Square.

More than 100 political groups and nonprofit groups, including the 50501 Movement, the ACLU and Indivisible, have partnered to organize the demonstrations. More information may be found on nokings.org.
