SCRANTON, PA. – On Wed., July 16, 2025, the City of Scranton will test flood sirens located at both Shawnee Avenue and Middle Street. The Shawnee flood siren is located near the intersection of Shawnee Avenue and Dean Street, and the Middle Street flood siren is located near Barring Avenue and the site of the Scranton Co-Op Farmers’ Market.
In addition to the flood siren notice, residents of the Plot section, which is closest to the Shawnee flood siren, are reminded of evacuation routes in the event of an actual emergency.
Residents evacuating the Plot in an emergency will be directed West towards North Main Avenue. Evacuees should follow North Main Avenue Southbound to the North Scranton Expressway, as North Main Avenue Northbound may be closed due to flooding. Evacuees should then take the North Scranton Expressway Southbound towards Interstate 81 or Northbound towards Dickson City.
