THROOP — A Pottsville man is accused of attempting to trade $200 and a quantity of cocaine for two hours of sex, police said.
Robert Hammer, 57, of 30 Pearl St., is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and patronizing a prostitute.
Here is what police say happened:
On Saturday, Throop police initiated an investigation into prostitution in the borough.
Officers used a confidential informant to create a post on a website commonly used to solicit sex in return for money or drugs through a verified account.
At 8:40 p.m., a man later identified as Hammer texted undercover officers saying he wanted to exchange $200 and narcotics for two hours of sex.
He told undercover officers he would bring the drugs and money to a meeting location.
Hammer arrived via Uber and texted officers saying he was looking for the apartment where they were located. He found the apartment and knocked on the door, which was answered by undercover officers.
Hammer was arrested. He admitted to officers he came to the location to exchange cocaine and cash for sex.
Officers searched Hammer and a cross-body bag he was wearing. They found a small amount of marijuana, THC wax and 15 grams of a white crystal substance that field-tested positive for meth.
Police also found two pink pills, which tested positive for ecstasy, and $402.
Hammer was in possession of a metal straw, baggies and a THC pen, police said.
Hammer is also facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on April 17 before District Judge Paul Keller.
