PennDOT Engineering District 4 Executive Richard N. Roman on Thursday highlighted numerous projects anticipated to start during and currently progressing through the 2025 construction season in the six-county, Dunmore-based region.
“Every Pennsylvanian deserves a safe and reliable transportation network and our investments in this region reflect the Shapiro Administration’s commitment to improving lives in communities across the state,” said state Transportation Secretary Mike Carroll in a news release.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will build on momentum from the past two years and anticipates investing more than $300 million in the region spanning Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties.

“Our transportation system is more important than ever. Much of our infrastructure is over 50 years old,” Roman said in a news release. “As we near 1 billion (dollars) in highway and bridge improvements over the past three years, we continue to invest in our roadways and bridges, as they are essential to the vitality of our state and country.”
Overall highlights in the 2024 construction season for District 4 include:
• 169 miles of roadway improvements.
• 305 bridges will be addressed.
• 490 miles of seal coat.
• 1,287 miles of crack sealing.
• 1,143 miles of shoulder cutting.
